He has extensive Board experience across multiple industries. Other current roles include advising one of Australia’s larger superannuation funds on their global private equity program and also representing them on the Boards of a number of their investments (including two New Zealand-based forestry businesses).
Stephen holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Cape Town and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia. Mr Baldwin joined the Lignor Board in March 2007.
Peter Burton is the founding shareholder in Lignor and has been instrumental in the development of the Lignor project over the past 10 years and is the Author of the Lignor Patents. Peter is the principal of Agway Pty Ltd, a private Agri-industrial consulting services company. Educated at Stonyhurst College, England, he studied engineering at the St Gallen Polytechnic, Switzerland. Peter is fluent in three languages. Peter has had over 35 years experience in Agri-industries and has been involved in various projects in Australia, Asia, Middle East and South America.
Prior to starting his consultancy company, Agway, Peter held for 7 years the position of Export Manager and Manager Systems (Asia) for the Sprout-Bauer division of US based Combustion Engineering Inc. This position covered all projects and systems throughout Asia and had responsibility for the development of agent networks in ten Asian countries including China. For the past 18 years Mr Burton has consulted through Agway for Australian and Asian clients in the Agri- Industrial areas.
Bill Russell is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant in Australia and Registered Company Auditor. He is a principal of Russell Harvey & Co, a specialist property advisory firm. Previously he was partner (in excess of 20 years) in charge of the Property Advisory Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Bill is a past president of the Property Council (Vic), a previous Board member of the Property Council of Australia, is currently and has been for many years a judge for the National PCA Property Awards, past Chairman of the Abbotsford Convent Foundation, Chairman of the Victorian Government’s committee Melbourne 2030 Planning for Sustainable Development, was a board member for the development of the CH2, the City of Melbourne sustainable building and is a long standing member on the audit committee for the Parliament of Victoria and is currently Chairman of the Building Practitioners Board of Victoria. Bill joined as a director of Lignor in October 2012.
John Simon has recently retired as CEO of the national timber wholesaler, Simmonds Lumber Group. After completing his Master’s in timber engineering, Mr Simon worked in timber research at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa. Since arriving in Australia 29 years ago, he has been the Managing Director of Sterlands, the largest timber frame and truss producer in Australia; CEO of national timber distributor Pine Solutions; Managing Director of merchant and retailer Hudson Building Supplies; and Chairman of the Timber Development Association for 10 years. He is currently the Chair of Forest and Wood Products Australia, a member of the Housing Industry Association’s Manufacturers and Suppliers Council, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Mr Simon joined the Lignor board in August 2015.
Tristan Zhou is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA Australia) and holds an MBA from the Australia Graduate School of Management (AGSM). He was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Lignor Ltd in January 2013.
Tristan has over eleven years’ experience in managerial accounting, finance and business management, particularly within the manufacturing sector. Prior to his appointment to Lignor Ltd, Tristan worked for a number of multinational organisations such as Toyota Motor Corporation and Meritor Inc. Mr Zhou has an extensive background in managerial accounting as well as financial reporting, commercial and business management. Tristan is also the CEO of Black Group Australia, a medium-sized agribusiness group. He has been appointed a director of Craigpine Timber Ltd NZ which exports to some 22 countries and director of Simmonds Lumber Pty Ltd.
Being an Australian of Chinese origin, Tristan is bilingual and maintains cultural links with his country of birth.
In 2008 Kirsten obtained a Bachelor of Science majoring in mathematics and physics from the University of Sydney. At the same institute she then completed a Master of Professional Engineering (Structural). After working for 3 years as a structural engineer at Partridge Structural she then commenced her PhD studies in 2014. As a structural engineer, she gained experience with the use of timber as structural elements in both residential and commercial buildings. Her Phd included work comparing Lignor’s Cross Laminated Strand Timber (CLST™) with conventional Cross Laminated Timber. The results were most favourable to CLST™ augmented with a embedded fastening strength over twice that of CLT.
